CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE – Any group, individual, or community organization interested in entering a float in the parade to be held on Sat. June 30 is asked to please contact Ron Wagar at 548-2852.  The Centennial committee asks for your help contacting past residents, family and friends who would be interested in attending the Sturgis 100th  birthday celebrations June 29th, 30th, and July 1st, 2012. Please drop off names and addresses to the Town office.

You can now submit your name & number of plates needed for the supper on our website.  If you cannot display the page, you may have to update your browser to google chrome, which is a free program to use the internet. We can then keep track & plan how many are coming, but we still need you to submit your payment either by mail or drop off at the town office. 

 

WINTER SNOW REMOVAL – To avoid having a build up of snow along roadways within the town limits, residents and merchants are again asked to please park vehicles on your own property while the town crew works to remove snow.  Reminder:  town property extends beyond pavement and in order to keep the drivable surface clean, snow is moved onto this area.  EQUIPMENT WILL NOT RETURN TO CLEAN UP AFTER ANY VEHICLES LEFT ON THE PAVED AREA

 

LANDFILL HOURS –YEAR ROUND:  Tues. Fri. & Sat. 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

PET LICENCES ARE DUE!!! Pay not later than Feb. 11/12 to avoid fines.

Unlicensed Dog or Cat - $100 FINE/per pet

STURGIS & DISTRICT HALL COMMITTEE would like to thank the following people for their donations to the hall: Bert Suknasky – 1 case of sugar packets to be used for the  hall & bingo &  Pauline Anaka – freezer for kitchen.

New Years Eve Dance & Supper was a success with a profit of $5,606.44!

Volunteer Help Needed – The Sturgis Hall Committee is in desperate need of volunteer people to help with fundraising.  This may include cooking, decorating, brainstorming ideas, bar workers, etc.  If we cannot find some serious members we may be forced to not have a committee at all.  Therefore there would be no more fundraising to help our hall survive – no more bake sales, luncheons, breakfasts, snowmobile derbys, suppers, dances or Christmas events.  Please search your schedules and see if you can spare your time for a good cause.

Snowmobile Derby – Saturday March 3rd, Pancake Breakfast 9-11am - $5,

Spaghetti Supper – 5-7pm $10, Raffle Table, Cash Bar & DJ

FRIDGE FULL OF ‘CANNED TURKEYS’- Tickets_ $2 or 3/$5

STURGIS COMMUNITY BINGO – Bingo every Tuesday - 8 p.m. @ Sturgis & District Community Hall.  Bingo pay-out: $50 for regular games and $100 for the consolation jackpot game.  More volunteers are needed.  Call Lillian Smith @ 548-2087.

READ CLUB – Sturgis READ Club is hosting a Whist Tournament on Sat. Feb. 11 @

10 a.m. Noon lunch.  Everyone is welcome.  Contact Gladys @ 548-5432 for more info.

STURGIS KINETTES – Canvassing for the 2012 Community Birthday Calendar will begin in January.  If you are new to town or just would like to have your family added please contact Chris @ 548-5594 or Katrina @ 548-2126 by the end of February.

If you can help out with working in the Bar or Kitchen please contact Brad Cameron (Bar) or Kristen Peterson or Amanda Masley for the Kitchen.

Any help with working shifts or with the renovations would be greatly appreciated.

STURGIS WILDLIFE FEDERATION  -  Party Wagon Tickets on sale $10 each, draw to be made at the banquet. Tickets at the town office or any member.   2nd Annual Fish Derby @ Crystal Lake, March 2012.  Fun for the whole family!  Annual Awards, Banquet & Dance – Sat. Apr. 21, more details to follow on these events. Everyone Welcome!!

Season rates§ Family $100, § Adult $65, § Student $50, § Preschool Free

Daily rates:  $3/adult, $2/student. 

Public skating time:  Mon. – Fri. – 7-9:30p.m. & Sundays – 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m.

unless there are extra lessons or hockey games booked

 PLEASE TAKE NOTE:  the arena kitchen will be open to the public every Tuesday & Thursday during skating lessons from 4-5:30 p.m.

The Arena is available for rent -Call Kurt for availability and to book.

Rink Rental – Ice & Kitchen = $40/hr. or Kitchen only = $30/hr.

The skating arena will be having a FREE skating day. Feb.11 from 4-9. The kitchen will be open!! Everyone is invited out to skate or just to have a good burger.

The arena will be having a bottle drive on Feb. 18 starting at 10 am. You can leave your bottles bagged at the end of your driveway.

Sturgis Branch Library – Phone 548-2824,   www.parkland.lib.sk.ca   Library Hours:  Tuesdays—2pm to 6pm, Wednesdays—12pm to 6pm, Thursdays—11am to 5pm. Story Hours for February are: Wed. Feb 8th & 22nd, 3:45-4:45, children ages 12 & under.  Thank you to everyone who supported our 2011 Dessert of the Month fundraiser.  Next draw is February 28th.  Tickets are available at the Library or from any Board member.  Also a thank you to those who supported our Christmas Silent Auction—it is greatly appreciated!
